The garden hose is an important but often taken for granted accessory in our gardens and backyards. The simple garden hose is an indispensable garden tool but is oftentimes overshadowed by other more popular tools like lawnmowers, garden trowels and rakes. With versatile garden hose reels, problems of entanglement of your garden hoses in your garden table and chairs will now be a thing of the past. Take a look at our newest and most popular models of garden hose reels guaranteed to help make storage of unwieldy garden hoses quick and easy.

How Many Garden Hose Reels Do You Need?

When the time comes to buy your third, fourth, or even fifth garden hose reel you are well aware that quality matters. When you consider that a garden hose reel is only in active use for a few months a year, then paying $30 to $50 for a replacement reel every couple of years far outweighs the value you get from the product. Even when you just have a small garden to manage, buying a durable and reliable hose reel gives you the best value for your money. So if you only want to buy one last garden hose reel, read on.

Before you buy your hose reel, decide what your main use will be so that you get the model that best suits you. You can get wall mount, free standing, and portable garden hose reels. There are two models that can attach to your house of building; one attaches parallel while the other attaches perpendicular.  If you are not sure about the difference, it’s simply ease of use. If your hose pipe is at the side of your house you want to install a parallel reel – when you pull the house it runs along the wall of your house.  If your hose pipe is at the front of back of your house, you want to pull the hose directly out and into the yard of garden, for this you need a perpendicular model.

The two other models are the stand-alone and the portable hose reels.  The stand-alone reel typically stays in place, while the portable reel has 2 or 4 wheels so that you can move it from place to place.

You also need to decide on the length of your garden hose.  Most garden hose reels limit the length of hose that they can carry, and not all brands are expandable.  It’s better to buy a larger hose carrier than a smaller one.  For example, if you buy a reel that can carry up to 50ft of hose and then later need to use 100ft of hose, you will need to buy a new reel – unless you planned for expansion and bought a model that can be extended.

Of course, there is no point in getting a good quality garden hose reel if you don’t also get yourself a good quality hose. Look for a hose that is durable and non-kinking. Cheaper hoses come with warranties up to 5 years, while more expensive and durable hoses will have a lifetime warranty.

When you are looking for a new hose reel, look for one that has good quality stainless steel and aluminum components, brass fittings, and, as little plastic as possible. If you buy one with these features you will buy yourself a quality product that will last for many years.
